Belinda, tell us what brought you to yoga? Tell us a little about your yoga journey!<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I\u00a0started practicing \u00a0Bikram Yoga after the birth of my daughter, Zadie,\u00a0because I wanted to lose the post-baby weight and get back into shape. Right away, I really loved coming to my yoga mat because of the intense heat (105 degrees) allowing my body to\u00a0sweat out toxins and I loved the amount of concentration involved, that\u00a0one single point of focus. It was methodical & empowering and just what I needed at that moment in my life to help me feel grounded and focused. Then I felt a desire to learn more about other types of yoga and fell in love with the Ashtanga practice. I gravitated toward the linking of the body to the breath with each movement and the fluidity \u00a0of\u00a0the chaturanga, \u00a0sun salutations as well as the primary series. I became so much stronger physically and spiritually.\u00a0I completely believe in the science and philosophy of yoga and the transformation it creates in me daily!<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Who are your mentors? Who inspires you?<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u00a0My first mentors \u00a0were my parents and \u00a0my grandparents. \u00a0Sadly, my daddy and my grandparents have passed away but they are forever a part of me. My \u00a0grandmother \u00a0loved me in this magical way that always made me feel so very special \u00a0even though she had many grandchildren. She had this way of making ALL of us\u00a0feel like that! \u00a0She was strong yet loving and caring. She was a devoted Christian and always had a positive mindset. She was a vegetarian and led a healthy lifestyle. I admired her very much!<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Yoga makes me feel very special like the way my grandmother would make me feel. \u00a0Yoga feels like unconditional love and non-judgement surrounding me and it’s very beautiful,\u00a0the\u00a0whole spiritual element of the practice supports me every time I come to my mat!<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
As far as yoga teachers, every\u00a0teacher that I’ve studied under has mentored me in various ways!\u00a0John Meredith was very knowledgeable of the Ashtanga practice and passed on to me principles of being an effective teacher.\u00a0Jessie Fletcher was very impactful in my yoga practice teaching me about proper sequencing and aryevedic science. \u00a0I also feel passionate about every yoga teacher on our SOL staff. I learn every time I take one of their classes, \u00a0not only things about myself but about their teaching style and their personal yoga practice on and off the mat. I will always be a yoga teacher but first I am a student.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I used to love to run marathons and I trained a lot.\u00a0I was disciplined about running plans and nutrition and I didn’t think I would ever find any other physical activity \u00a0that I could love more than my time running. But\u00a0yoga, well, I love\u00a0yoga\u00a0more! Yoga makes me a better person.<\/div>\n

What do you wish new students knew about starting a yoga practice?<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Most people that have never tried yoga are quite intimidated about walking into a yoga studio because they aren\u2019t flexible or they feel they are overweight. \u00a0I always tell them \u201cthe hardest part is letting go of the ego and making the choice to\u00a0show up and let go of all their bull sh*t excuses!\u201d \u00a0I get discouraged by students with self-limiting behavior which tends to create a lot of unnecessary suffering.\u00a0So,\u00a0I would say: \u00a0\u201cStop making excuses and get out of your way! \u00a0Come to your yoga mat and just breathe and move your body and connect with yourself!\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
What is your favorite pose?<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
As I have evolved in my yoga practice\u00a0and have gotten physically stronger in my body,\u00a0I love chaturanga dandasana flowing into updog\/downdog. However, when\u00a0I first started practicing Ashtanga, \u00a0I wasn’t getting the movements just right \u00a0and I injured my shoulder.\u00a0So, I have worked diligently to correct my alignment and I\u00a0love to teach students how to refine\u00a0the details of shifting the shoulders slightly forward\u00a0in front of the wrists,\u00a0hugging the elbows into the ribcage and so forth ….\u00a0I love all the subtle details because I don’t want anyone to get injured and I want them to continue to step into their strength and their personal power.<\/div>\n

What are you reading right now?<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u00a0I enjoy reading! \u00a0I am currently reading the\u00a0Seven Spiritual Laws of Y<\/a>oga<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0I’m\u00a0also\u00a0always reading the\u00a0U<\/a>ntethered Soul<\/a>\u00a0by Michael Singer.<\/div>\n

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In five years,\u00a0I hope that I am leading more yoga teacher trainings,\u00a0inspiring more people to come to practice yoga daily. \u00a0Wow. I really want to continue to guide students to experience this beautiful ancient practice by following the 8 limbed path of yoga!\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I also want to travel around the world….. taking\u00a0yoga with me and leading yoga retreats for our SOL yogis in beautiful places while experiencing different cultures and appreciating this ONE life we have all been given. I want to climb Mount Kilimanjaro while doing yoga every day! \u00a0 I want go to Machu Pichu, Peru and many, many other places!<\/div>\n

\u00a0What is your favorite comfort food?<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
My go-to comfort food would be veggie pizza. And honestly, I can eat a whole pizza by myself just ask my family! \u00a0My all time favorite is Mellow Mushroom.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
When do you feel most connected to the world around you?<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
When I intentionally let go of my ego and my desires and truly focus on being fully present in the moment. However it is a daily struggle because I am a goal oriented and always multi-tasking and hustling to get it ALL done every day! Breathe in, breathe out…when I do that I feel most connected.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
What is your main goal for yourself? As a teacher? As a studio owner?<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
My main goal for myself is to\u00a0learn to let things unfold naturally and be willing to sit with whatever it is I’m experiencing. \u00a0I want to\u00a0let it pass through me instead of trying to control it. \u00a0 \u00a0I want to teach my children how to do this too! \u00a0Maybe they can do it better, sooner!<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
As a teacher,\u00a0I want to be creative but also have the element of grounding.<\/div>\n
I want first and foremost to anchor my students, so they feel very grounded and have a strong foundation. I want them to feel\u00a0that \u00a0every time they come to their yoga mat\u00a0they can be vulnerable and fluid and feel their energy without closing off to it. If I can channel that into each and every\u00a0class,\u00a0then\u00a0I feel like I have\u00a0accomplished something very special.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Sol is Latin for the Sun.\u00a0I love the sun. I love to be outside. I love as much vitamin D as I can get organically.\u00a0I am drawn to light. As a Yoga studio owner, \u00a0I believe SOL yoga studio is drawing people\u00a0to their inner light. There is something here at SOL for\u00a0every one\u00a0no matter your walk of life,\u00a0no matter what burden you\u00a0carry, we can all leave it at the door and we can come to our yoga mat and\u00a0experience this releasing and letting go and renewing\u00a0of\u00a0our spirit & mind each and every time we walk into this sacred space and feel connection! We should all do more of what sets our soul on fire! \u00a0Namaste.<\/div>\n
